The original use of a webcam was not intended to be a child monitor, but there have been many people, who have wished to use it this way over the last few years. You would need to relay video and audio over WiFi to use a webcam as a child monitor. You'll probably use an app on your phone, computer, or other smart devices instead of a handheld receiver. In this way, webcams are better than baby monitors because of the following features:
1) You may already have it
On computers and tablets, a web camera is used to make videos, take photographs, and hold video conferences with others, who are elsewhere. You might also have access to different cameras that are supposed to be part of your home protection or surveillance system.
Instead of running out and getting a different baby monitor system; you will already have everything you need to set up a webcam monitor system because you most likely have a phone and a computer.
Many parents opt to use a webcam or other smart camera as a baby monitor because they believe they can get a decent deal on a high-quality device, or because they already have a camera system ready to go before the baby arrives.
2) Always see your child
Although, some baby monitors only provide audio, a webcam will always encourage you to see your child, no matter how far apart you are. Baby monitors (especially those using radio signals) can only operate inside your home or in near vicinity, while webcam will be used for anything on the WiFi network and can be accessed from anywhere with the least possible hurdles.
It's typically a matter of pairing the camera to the monitor with a baby monitor. For a web camera, you need to plug it into your router and run a configuration wizard to connect to the Wi-Fi network. After that, though, you can screen the feed on your phone or tablet from anywhere, while most of the baby monitors are restricted to the house (or at least to a certain distance between the camera and the monitor).
3) More Secure
Baby monitors might theoretically be hacked: as described earlier, there are reports about other cameras in surrounding houses that pick up a radio signal from someone else's baby monitor, meaning you can know what's going on in someone else's house — which means someone else may know you. Video displays can be hacked and people can see in your house, even though all of the newer ones come with a password and protection features.
It can lose the signal: much like everything else, baby monitors can lose their signal, become sluggish, or crack. Only be sure to search the old-school way about your baby if anything happens. But webcams are more secure, reliable, and convenient in this way to keep an eye on your ward.
4) Advance Features
However, a lot of parent-centric video displays don't really do that much. Instead, they focus on 'baby branding' to move on simple features at a very high price. On contrary, now a day webcams are loaded with advanced features and a complete solution including the option to turn, tilt, zoom, quick on your pocket, small in size, agile, and also adjustable. Webcams with Video recording, chatting and photo-taking needs work in low light condition, built-in microphone, and compatible with many IM applications, and with so many features are also in the market to put an eye around.
In the end, the distinction between a baby monitor and a normal camera is that baby monitors have been designed to be used in a certain manner, and they have a lot of built-in functionality that you just need to include.
